Where: White Mountain Research Station, Bishop CA

Time: 7:00PM-8:00PM

Details: Mary Meyerpeter is a biological technician with the United States Geological Survey Western Ecological Research center and a graduate student at Idaho State University. She works with Bi-State sage-grouse, a geographically isolated and genetically distinct sub-population of greater sage-grouse. Mary works in collaboration with the USFWS, BLM, USFS, CDFW and LADWP in an effort to augment a critically small sub-population in the Bi-State area through sage-grouse translocations. These translocations: 1) bolster population size to reduce the imminent threat of local extinction that would negatively impact the overall stability of Bi-State sage-grouse populations and 2) infuse genetic variation to rescue this population from the effects of low genetic diversity and inbreeding depression. Mary and her partners have just completed the third year of translocations from the Bodie Hills to the Parker Meadows area. In her talk she will discuss the methods used to translocate sage-grouse and the effectiveness of translocations in rescuing this imperiled sub-population of sage-grouse.
